Rape anywhere,murder anywhere needs to be strictly punished.But what happens when this crime happens at a hospital?To someone who is on 36 hours duty, expected to eat and sleep minimally and give her best to help heal a patient ,never expects to be killed.She didn’t sign up for the army,she signed up to become a doctor. She didn’t want to be the police…she wanted to become a doctor.She wanted to catch some sleep ,she didn’t want to sleep for eternity.
It’s now almost 6 months since that day .The Sealdah court sentenced Sanjay Roy to imprisonment upto death. The court order has some facts which many of us had no idea about.But what is the way forward?Will we ever know what really happened?Will Abhaya’s family ever get closure?
We were lucky to study in a Medical college with good friends,colleagues,seniors and teachers who not only helped with guidance but were there to keep us safe, in more ways than one.Unfortunately Abhaya’s friends, colleagues,seniors and teachers in her department failed her.She is no more,but they still are around us.They know who they are.They know who did what .They know what they did that day.
