As I think about our 25-year reunion, I feel a mix of emotions – nostalgia, gratitude, and warmth. I’m amazed by the accomplishments of my fellow batchmates and the incredible journey we’ve shared. The Medical College of Kolkata, the oldest in Asia (established in 1835), has been more than just an institution to us – it’s been a second home where we’ve grown, learned, and formed lifelong bonds.
Our college has been built on four pillars: Padhai-Likhai (studying and writing), Prem (love), Politics (Rajniti), and Practicals (highest scientific and clinical acumen). However, it’s the values of friendship, social responsibility, and cultural heritage that have truly defined our experience. I want to thank our batchmates, especially the organizers of this reunion, for their hard work and dedication.
I’ve written a poem to capture the essence of our time at CMC and to convey the sense of warmth, friendship, and togetherness that has been the hallmark of our journey. I reminisce about the Dissection Hall, practical classes, hostels, and love stories that blossomed within the college. I recall the vibrant atmosphere of the college canteen, cultural celebrations of Rhapsody, and the enduring legacy of our college.
Through this poem, I hope to evoke a sense of belonging and gratitude for the experiences and connections we’ve nurtured at CMC. It’s a tribute to the shared moments, laughter, tears, and strong bonds that have stood the test of time. As we celebrate our 25-year reunion, I hope this poem will remind us of the treasured memories we’ve created and the importance of cherishing and preserving them for generations to come.
– Dr. Raj Kumar
“CMC Millienum Batch Rhapsody”
Memories of CMC stay
Forever in our hearts, come what may
Friendship and love, a lasting sway
Guiding us through life’s busy day
Dissection Hall, a place of awe
Where not only anatomy, different physiology and biochemistry we saw
Practical classes, a time to explore
And learn the secrets of the human core
Swarnomoyee, Main, BCRoy and all Hostels dear
Where laughter and tears, we held so near
Mixing of DayScholars/Hostellers echoes through time
A bond of friendship, forever divine
God made some amazing couples amongst close colleagues,
Some hearts broken, but got bonded with heavenly niche.
Love blossomed in the corridors of CMC,
A testament to the power of friendship and destiny.
College canteen, a hub of delight
Where adda and laughter, shone with all their might
Rhapsody, a cultural feast
A celebration of life, in all its beast
Twenty-five years gone, yet memories remain
Of CMC, a legacy that will forever sustain
In our hearts, a witness to our past
A reminder of friendships, that will forever last
Moments we shared, laughter and tears
Forever etched, through all the passing years
The bonds we formed, the love we shared
A treasure trove of memories, that will forever be spared.

Turning back the clock -it’s year 2000 again
If you could turn back the clock and it’s 2000 again what would you do ?That’s something I often wondered .That’s the reason I asked this question to my batch mates and here’s a few interesting gems.
Dr.Srijan Mazumdar:”Not to indulge in politics and read only; no play – set my eye to settle abroad or enjoy the unforgettable moments more fully at the stairs, library, canteens of my alma mater. I don’t know exactly but inclined to think I will choose the second option.”
Dr.Amrita Basu-“Study harder.Plus do the students politics, the right way.I missed out on really learning from the greats .Otherwise my college ,batch mates ,friends ,seniors and juniors were helpful and everything I ever hoped for and more. They have been angels in real life.
Dr.Abhijit Misra:I would like to study more and spend more time with my friends.Dr.Debleena Basu :”My wish- My dream became true
If I can go again in 2000 then can enjoy the college life more and try to get engaged with my CRUSH.”Dr.Chandrashish Chakravarty– I wished I knew that medical science is far different than delivery of healthcare.
If you could turn back the clock and it’s 2000 again what would you do: Commit the same mistakes because I am human and I will be again 18years old.
Dr.Dipankar Naskar:The active involvement of different political parties in student politics has only created divisions among us, offering no real benefits. Instead, it has hindered the growth of our friendships, which could have been much stronger. Without these divisions, our college memories could have been far more beautiful, colourful and meaningful.Dr.Arkaprava Dasgupta:Walk the same path again.
Dr.Avik Kumar Roy : I would cherish every corner of my alma mater (like the ghost of Interstellar), spend the Sundays with my hostel mates (which I never did, I lament), roam around the city of joy (missed you so much!!)
Dr.Ayan Jha:I wouldn’t change a thing, as all the good and not-so-good memories are what make life meaningful.
Dr.Raj Kumar:More focused on Total & Holistic Health. Cherish even more friendships and memories.
Dr.Ajijul Hakim Mollah:Sokolke joriye dhore kadbo and KOLAKULI korbo….also given thanks to Almighty for being a student of this college.
Dr.Soumya Ghosh :I would try to remove the political barriers amongst us.
Dr.Chandramouli Chatterjee :If I could turn back to 2000 …. I would rejoice to the fullest.. make more memories milegi dobara
Dr.Nivedita Das:Haah ha! Wish I could! Now realizing as a teacher that teaching-learning from our respected teachers was real treasure in that time, wish I could attend those classes with more attention!
I would like to give more care and time for friends, specially my fellow batch mates …., missed the golden opportunity to know them well!

Dr.Joyashree Bannerjee: My two cutie pies never allow me to turn back the clock.
Dr.Puspen Mandi:Turning back the pendulum, If I had to change anything, it would be to know my batchmates better, irrespective of political affiliations. And convincing some of them that they shouldn’t worry about academic/career failures so much, as there are much more failures than us in this world who are quite happy and content in life !
Dr.Rubik Ray:Live more in the present and think less of the future.
Dr.Shraboni Ghosh :make more friends.
Dr.Sharmistha Daripa – I would do the same if clock turned back to 2000 again. I consider myself blessed that I made my dream come true and got opportunity to study in one of the prestigious Medical colleges of India.
If this is 2000 , then I want to start the journey with my true friends and enjoy the path- Dr.Debarati Pathak

Dr.Pradip Kr.Mandal:If I am able to go back to 2000 then I will make more friends, will spend more time with them, which I am missing daily.
Dr.Sandip Sardar: I would dedicate more time to exploring emerging fields in medicine and seek mentorship from professors for a deeper understanding of surgical innovations.

What You Wished You Knew in Medical College
What you wished you knew when you were in Calcutta Medical College ?That’s a question we asked our batchmates and some of them answered in their usual cryptic style. Here’s wisdom from the batch of 2000 a.k.a cmcmillennialbatch.
That life throws curveballs now and then and studying medicine is not at all a rosy career as portrayed.
Dr.Srijan Mazumdar
In the professional realm, it often seems that the law of the jungle governs. One might assume that by avoiding conflict with the lion, one can ensure their own safety. However, the truth is more complex—true leadership requires not merely coexistence but the courage and strategy to surpass the lion and claim dominion over the jungle.
Dr.Dipankar NaskarDr.AbhijitMisra:
I wish if we could learn more about entrepreneurship and passive earning
Nothing….just wish if I could freeze those moments for eternity….
Dr.Arkaprava Dasgupta
Dr.Avik Kumar Roy –I wish I knew there are so many friends with whom I never care/dare to talk.
That there would be so few opportunities to relive those vibrant days!-Dr.Ayan Jha
Dr.Amrita Basu-Life is going to be really hard but worth it.Don’t give up , don’t compromise on sleep or health.Definitely ignore the God complex and ignore those who tell you to bunk classes;they dont really know the long game.
Dr.Raj Kumar :Time, a treasure to share,
Health, a wealth beyond compare,
Work-life balance, a harmony to seek,
Friendship, a bond that forever speaks”Dr.Soumya Ghosh:I wished to come back again to Medical College as a PGT or as a doctor.
Dr.Nivedita Das:Friendships are priceless, no matter what, friends remain same. Political angles are absolutely nothing to do with the relationships between friends.
Dr.Indranil Mallick:As I look back on our time in medical college, I can’t help but reflect on the dreams and aspirations we all had as aspiring doctors. I remember wishing to truly make a difference in patients’ lives, gain knowledge and skills to excel in our fields, and build lasting bonds with each of you—my incredible batchmates.
As I reminisce about our undergraduate days, I can’t help but think about my dream of becoming a gynaecologist. Back then, I was inspired by the opportunity to support women’s health, bring new life into the world, and empower women through their reproductive health journeys.
I hoped we would support each other through the challenges of medical education and emerge as compassionate professionals dedicated to improving healthcare. I envisioned us working together to create positive change in our communities.Dr.Sabyasachi Sengupta
