Reflections of a MBBS Time: A Tribute to the Enduring Spirit of CMC by Dr.Raj Kumar

As I think about our 25-year reunion, I feel a mix of emotions – nostalgia, gratitude, and warmth. I’m amazed by the accomplishments of my fellow batchmates and the incredible journey we’ve shared. The Medical College of Kolkata, the oldest in Asia (established in 1835), has been more than just an institution to us – it’s been a second home where we’ve grown, learned, and formed lifelong bonds.

Our college has been built on four pillars: Padhai-Likhai (studying and writing), Prem (love), Politics (Rajniti), and Practicals (highest scientific and clinical acumen). However, it’s the values of friendship, social responsibility, and cultural heritage that have truly defined our experience. I want to thank our batchmates, especially the organizers of this reunion, for their hard work and dedication.

I’ve written a poem to capture the essence of our time at CMC and to convey the sense of warmth, friendship, and togetherness that has been the hallmark of our journey. I reminisce about the Dissection Hall, practical classes, hostels, and love stories that blossomed within the college. I recall the vibrant atmosphere of the college canteen, cultural celebrations of Rhapsody, and the enduring legacy of our college.

Through this poem, I hope to evoke a sense of belonging and gratitude for the experiences and connections we’ve nurtured at CMC. It’s a tribute to the shared moments, laughter, tears, and strong bonds that have stood the test of time. As we celebrate our 25-year reunion, I hope this poem will remind us of the treasured memories we’ve created and the importance of cherishing and preserving them for generations to come.

“CMC Millienum Batch Rhapsody”
Memories of CMC stay
Forever in our hearts, come what may
Friendship and love, a lasting sway
Guiding us through life’s busy day

Dissection Hall, a place of awe
Where not only anatomy, different physiology and biochemistry we saw
Practical classes, a time to explore
And learn the secrets of the human core

Swarnomoyee, Main, BCRoy and all Hostels dear
Where laughter and tears, we held so near
Mixing of DayScholars/Hostellers echoes through time
A bond of friendship, forever divine

God made some amazing couples amongst close colleagues,
Some hearts broken, but got bonded with heavenly niche.
Love blossomed in the corridors of CMC,
A testament to the power of friendship and destiny.

College canteen, a hub of delight
Where adda and laughter, shone with all their might
Rhapsody, a cultural feast
A celebration of life, in all its beast

Twenty-five years gone, yet memories remain
Of CMC, a legacy that will forever sustain
In our hearts, a witness to our past
A reminder of friendships, that will forever last

Moments we shared, laughter and tears
Forever etched, through all the passing years
The bonds we formed, the love we shared
A treasure trove of memories, that will forever be spared.
